Helpful tips and suggestions for setting up Engagement Shoots

Congratulations! You are either engaged or are thinking about proposing to your best friend and now it is time to think about getting photos taken. We offer a couple different options depending on who is reading this right now; The traditional posed shoot and the proposal shoot. Either way, here are some things to think about before booking your engagement shoot. Knowing these things will help make your photos come out great and make the process go much smoother!

Proposal Shoot

Location: I like to tell my clients that they should choose a location with significance to the couple. Having your pictures taken at a place that has meaning to you will empower the photos that will be taken and will create more powerful memories when you look at the photos in the future.

Another thing to consider when picking a spot to propose is to pinpoint a specific location. For example, if you choose a park that you both have gone to in the past, pick the spot in that park that you will propose to your girlfriend. Make sure to consider what direction she is facing when you propose. After all, getting her expression is the main point of a proposal shoot! Ideally, her back would be toward the scenic background, with the photographer behind you as you’re proposing.

The lighting. If the day you are proposing is supposed to be bright and sunny, consider proposing in a shaded area. The even lighting that comes with shade will help the photos pop and will look much better than sunlight beaming directly onto both of your faces.

Timing: It is critical to communicate the timing of your proposal with your photographer. Knowing the time you are going to propose will help your photographer know when to bring their camera up and start taking photos. It is important for your photographer to know both the time that you are arriving at the location, as well as the time that you are going to drop to your knee and ask your girlfriend to marry you!
