Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up a Bridal Portrait Session

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! At Carter Creations Photography, we understand the importance of capturing beautiful memories for our clients. To help you prepare for a flawless bridal portrait session, we have put together a step-by-step guide. Let's get started!

1. Consultation and Planning

After signing of the contract, we will schedule a a consultation. During the consultation, we'll discuss your vision, preferences, and any specific ideas you may have for your bridal portraits. We want to understand your unique style and ensure that the session captures it perfectly. We'll also discuss possible locations, props, wardrobe, and any additional services you may require, such as hairstyling or makeup.

2. Location Scouting

This is one of our favorite parts of a photoshoot. Together, we will come up with a beautiful location for the photoshoot that aligns with your vision. (The places that work best are outdoor settings.) We'll coordinate with you to secure any necessary permissions for shooting at the chosen location and plan accordingly.

3. Hair and Makeup

We recommend doing bridal portraits on the day you have your hair and makeup trial. This service is usually free for brides and reduces stress as we don’t have to schedule everything for another day. If your hair and makeup artist does not offer this service, we would be happy to help set that up for you for an additional fee.

4. Preparation Checklist

In the days leading up to the session, consider the following essential preparations:

  • Ensure your wedding dress is clean and fitted to you.

  • Get a good night's sleep before the session to look refreshed.

  • Stay hydrated and eat well to keep your skin glowing.

  • Share your preferences and specific shots you'd like to capture with your photographer.

5. The Day of the Session

On the day of your bridal portrait session, allow yourself plenty of time to relax, get ready, and arrive at the location in a stress-free manner. Avoid trying anything new or experimental right before the shoot. Trust in our expertise, and let our guidance lead to stunning photos that capture your true self.

6. Post-Session Edits and Delivery

After the session, our we will curate a selection of the best images and apply professional edits to enhance their quality. When we are finished editing the photos we will email you a link to your personal gallery where you may view, share and purchase the photos you like the most.
